Kate studies Tourism Management at Bournemouth University and is doing a 12 month placement in Australia working with a business which sells fine wines. 

What’s your background back home?

“I come from a small family, outside a big city. Moved far away for uni & always wanting to explore more.”

Why did you choose to do a placement year as part of your degree?

“Compulsory part of sandwich degree, good experience.”

What are you doing for your placement year?

“Events based internship, touching on other sectors (e.g marketing, social media…).”

Why did you decide to do your placement year overseas instead of back home in the UK?

“Take any opportunity to travel.”

What are you learning from living and working overseas for your placement year?

“Different ways of doing things, experiencing a new lifestyle.”

What have you done so far?

“Work at placement; have a few events, get a part time job pet sitting, lots of concerts / festivals, travelled some of the east coast.”

Why did you choose Placement Year International?

“Heard good things.”

What skills or knowledge have you gained from your placement so far?

“How to pull up an event time line/run sheet, compile contact lists, learn about liquor and event licensing, ticket system analytics, social media analytics.”

What have you learnt about Australian culture?

“Any word that exists can be shortened in some way or another!”
