Tom Stapleton from Bournemouth University talks about his Sports, Leisure & Beach activities placement
Tom Stapleton gives his initial feedback after settling into a Sports, Leisure & Beach activities placement in Thailand.
We asked Tom for some feedback about his overseas placement in Thailand since arriving in August.
What’s the hotel like? Can you describe the location and facilities?
The hotel is absolutely stunning, it is right on the beach and there is a lot of greenery on the hotel grounds. There are many facilities here including 2 pools, 3 restaurants, 2 bars, a spa and the new gym and tennis court which are opening soon.
What type of work have you done so far?
So far I’ve mainly been selling tours and day trips to guests but when the new gym opens my role will change.
Who is your work supervisor and what kind of support do they give you?
My supervisor is called Nicky and he has been teaching me about everything that goes on in the recreation department.
What are your colleagues like?
All of my colleagues are very friendly and will always give me help if I require it.
Where can you go / what can you do in your time off?
There are 2 towns in the local area which are good places to go shopping or eating/drinking. There are also lots of islands which you can visit for the day.
What’s the weather like compared to the UK?!
The weather is so much better than the UK, the temperature never goes below 20 degrees and although it is the rainy season at the moment it’s still nicer than the UK.
