Hospitality Placements in the Maldives
Enhance your hospitality experience by joining our placement programme in the Maldives!
Think of the Maldives and you probably think of luxury boutique hotels perched above crystal clear seas full of brightly coloured tropical fish. You won’t be disappointed with the Hospitality placements we arrange in this tropical paradise.
Your internship placement
Your Hospitality placement in the Maldives will be with a high-end 4 or 5 Star hotel, meaning your experience will be top quality and worthwhile.
Our placements in the Maldives are suitable for undergraduates or graduates for durations between 6 to 12 months. Our start dates are flexible.
After you are offered a place on our Hospitality programme in the Maldives, we will match your skills and previous experience to the most suitable hotel to ensure you get the best placement possible. This personal approach ensures you receive the experience and training you want and the hotel receives someone with the skills they need.
Who can join our Hospitality placements in the Maldives?
Our placements in the Maldives are suitable for those studying at university and who are required to complete a Placement Year or internship as part of their course.
We also arrange internships for recent graduates and people who are already working in the hospitality industry.
Most people who join our programmes are studying or have studied degrees such as International Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Tourism Management, Culinary Arts and other similar subjects. You could also be studying Business or Languages, however it is good to have hospitality experience in this case.
Hospitality placements in the Maldives include roles within Front Office and Guest Relations, Restaurant Management, Food Service, Concierge, Events & Catering.
We can also offer rotations if you would like to learn about more than one area of the hotel. In this case it’s important to commit to the placement for a duration of 10 to 12 months. This means you are there long enough for the hotel to benefit after spending time training you before you move on to the next department.
We ensure you receive a professional training experience during your trip to the Maldives.
You will have a local work supervisor throughout your placement. This is normally the HR Manager or head of department you work in.
Your work supervisor will be the main contact for any work-related queries you may have. They will arrange your work schedule and do a thorough induction to the hotel to make you feel comfortable in your new location and work place. They will also give you feedback during your placement so you know how you have developed during your overseas placement.
The hotel will provide training throughout your stay and, if you work hard and impress your colleagues, you may be offered opportunities for developing your work and responsibilities during the placement. Some previous students have also been offered work opportunities after graduation.
Health and safety
Your safety is our first priority.
All our placements are checked before you arrive and if you join as part of your degree, we will help ensure that your university health and safety documents are checked and signed by our partner hotel.
This means your university is able to verify the work placement meets their criteria. We work directly with universities on this.
We also work with a great insurance provider, who offer a comprehensive working holiday travel insurance policy. We will share this information with you to make you feel at ease during your trip.
Orientations & Staff support
Our staff support for the Maldives works slightly differently to other destinations due to the fact that hotels are spread out between more than 100 islands which have been developed into tourist resorts.
Unlike other destinations where it’s easy for us to rent a local office and visit placements, this is certainly not the case in the Maldives because it means taking either a boat or seaplane!
However, don’t worry because our staff from the UK and Thailand offices are in constant contact with our partner hotels and placement students in the Maldives.
You will be met on arrival by a friendly representative from your placement hotel holding a sign with your name, whatever day or time your flight lands!
They will escort you to your placement hotel and the next day your work supervisor will do a thorough orientation around your local area, introduce you to your new work colleagues and settle you into your accommodation.
Before you leave home we’ll brief you about cultural differences, especially those which could affect your new work life. This will help you adjust to life in a different culture which helps ensure you have an enjoyable and worthwhile trip.
Our UK and Thailand-based staff will check on your progress by email and Skype calls and are on hand 24/7 for emergencies. If you join as part of your degree we will also communicate directly with your university Placement Office when necessary.
What you pay for
We charge a £195 Registration Fee to ensure your commitment to the programme. This is 100% refundable if we can’t arrange a suitable placement.
For your Hospitality placement in the Maldives, your other costs are a Placement Fee of £900 for up to six months and £1,100 for 7 to 12 months. You will pay for your flights, visa and insurance. If you would like advice on the best flights then we are happy to provide a flight quote. We will support your visa application process and provide all the documents you require for this.
Some universities provide their own university travel insurance, so if you are studying at university it is worth checking this to save a bit of money. We expect your costs for a 12 month placement to total under £1,950.
Accommodation is included with your placement, either staff accommodation or a guest bedroom. Your food is also provided and the hotel also pays you a local salary, normally around £200 a month. This may not sound a lot, however the cost of living in the Maldives is considerably less than back home.
Placement Year International arranges and pays for pre-departure support, cultural briefings and support and advice throughout your stay, as well as 24-7 emergency help.
