Hospitality Internships in Vietnam
Expand your future career prospects by joining a paid internship in Vietnam!
Vietnam’s luxury hospitality industry is developing quickly. Now is the time to live and work in one of Asia’s most vibrant cultures while gaining essential skills for your future career.
Your internship placement
We work with many hotels in Vietnam, ranging from business hotels in city centre locations to leisure resorts along the coast, meaning we can find the right hotel for your skills and interests.
We work with high-end 4 and 5 Star hotels in Vietnam, meaning you will get high quality, worthwhile experience on your work placement.
After accepting you on the programme we will match your personal requirements and interests, your previous training and experience with the most suitable hotel. This personal approach ensures you receive the experience and training you want and the hotel receives someone with the skills they need.
Who can join our Hospitality placements in Vietnam?
Our Vietnam placements are most suitable for those studying or working in the hospitality industry.
Most people who join our programmes are studying or have studied degrees such as Hospitality, Tourism Management, Culinary Arts and other similar subjects. You could also be studying Business or Languages, however it is good to have hospitality experience in this case.
Worried about language barriers? Don’t be. Your placement will be an English-speaking local person who will guide and help you throughout your stay. Some of your local work colleagues will probably end up being friends for life after several months working and socialising together!
Gaining international hospitality experience is a great option for making your CV stand out, and a great chance to learn about a new culture!
Hospitality placements include roles within the following areas: Culinary Arts, Front Office and Guest Relations, Restaurant Management, Food Service, Concierge, Events & Catering. We can also offer rotations if you would like to learn about more than one area of the hotel.
If you want to gain experience in areas such as Sales & Marketing, Business development, Social Media Management, PR and other broader business functions then please click here for more information about business placements on our Thailand programme.
You will have a work supervisor throughout your hotel placement. This is normally the HR Manager or head of department you work in.
Your work supervisor is the main “go-to” person for all your work-related queries. They will arrange your work schedule, do a thorough induction to the hotel when you arrive, give you feedback, answer your questions and help solve any problems which arise at work.
The hotel will provide training throughout your stay and, if you work hard and impress your colleagues, you may even be rewarded by the offer of a full time job at the end!
Health and safety
Your safety is our first priority during your trip to Vietnam.
If you join our programme as part of your degree, rest assured we will work with your university to verify the work placement meets their criteria and ensure all the health and safety documents you require are signed off. Our frequent contact with your hotel supervisor and 24/7 emergency back-up also helps to ensure you are safe during your trip.
We also work with a great insurance provider, who offer a comprehensive working holiday travel insurance policy. We will share this information with you to make you feel at ease during your trip.
Orientations & Staff support
Our staff support for Vietnam works slightly differently to other destinations. Our hospitality placements can be quite spread out due to Vietnam’s 3,260km of coastline.
Unlike other destinations where it’s easy for us to rent a local office and visit placements, this is not the case in Vietnam.
However, don’t worry because the staff from Thailand are in constant contact with our partner hotels and placement students in Vietnam and visit regularly.
You will be met on arrival by a friendly representative from your placement hotel holding a sign with your name, whatever day or time your flight lands!
They will escort you to your placement hotel and the next day your work supervisor will do a thorough orientation around your local area, introduce you to your new work colleagues and settle you into your accommodation.
Before you leave home we’ll brief you about cultural differences, especially those which could affect your new work life. This will help you adjust to life in a different culture which helps ensure you have an enjoyable and worthwhile trip.
Our UK and Thailand-based staff will check on your progress by email and Skype calls and are on hand 24/7 for emergencies. If you join as part of your degree we will also communicate directly with your university Placement Office when necessary. While there will be regular contact with our staff we recommend the Vietnam programme for those who are already confident travellers and happy to be more independent during their placement.
What you pay for
We charge a £195 Registration Fee to ensure your commitment to the programme. This is 100% refundable if we can’t arrange a suitable placement.
For your Hospitality placement in Vietnam, your other costs are a Placement Fee of £995 for up to 6 months or £1,195 for 7-12 months. You will pay for your flights, visa and insurance. If you would like advice on the best flights then we are happy to provide a flight quote. We will support your visa application process and provide all the documents you require for this.
Some universities provide their own university travel insurance, so if you are studying at university it is worth checking this to save a bit of money. We expect your costs for a 12 month placement to total under £1,950.
Accommodation is included with your placement, either staff accommodation or a guest bedroom. Your food is also provided and the hotel also pays you a local salary, normally around £200 a month. This may not sound a lot, however the cost of living in Vietnam is considerably less than back home.
Placement Year International arranges and pays for pre-departure support, cultural briefings and support and advice throughout your stay, as well as 24-7 emergency help.
