You will have a local work supervisor. This is your main daily contact for any queries about the job role you may have. They will ensure your work schedule is prepared, and you will be given your own tasks and responsibilities to help develop your career skills.
If you work hard and impress your colleagues you may be offered opportunities you never expected. Participants can also be offered further work opportunities at the end of their placement.
Health and safety
Your safety is our first priority.
All our placements are checked before you arrive and if you join as part of your degree, we will help ensure that your university health and safety documents are checked and signed by your host company.
This means your university is able to verify the work placement meets their criteria. We work directly with universities on this.
We also work with a great insurance provider, who offer a comprehensive working holiday travel insurance policy. We will share this information with you to make you feel at ease during your trip.
Orientations & Staff support
Due to Australia’s enormous size we don’t have our own offices spread across the country so our placements are closely supported from here in Europe.
If you want some extra support on arrival, then choose from one of our Arrival Packages. These are available in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane for an additional fee. They include airport transfers on arrival to your hostel, 5 nights of hostel accommodation, free hostel activities (competitions, beach walks etc), local activities and trips based on your location, free internet and some meals.
This can be the perfect way to arrive and get settled, make new friends and have a base to use for finding your permanent accommodation before starting work. Contact Us for details.
Our UK staff will be in frequent contact with you before your trip while we make all the arrangements for your placement in Australia. They will also keep in touch with you throughout your trip and are always available to talk and give advice and support on Skype or by email.
What you pay for
We charge a £195 registration fee to ensure your commitment to the programme. This is 100% refundable if we can’t arrange a suitable placement.
For your bespoke Australia placement, you will also pay a Placement Fee of £1,195 and you should budget for flights, visa, insurance, accommodation & food. You will receive a small local salary which helps towards the cost of your accommodation & food.
If you would like advice on the best flights then we are happy to provide a quote. We will assist your visa application.
Some universities provide insurance on a university insurance policy so it’s worth checking before buying your own.
Placement Year International arranges and pays for pre-departure support, orientation on arrival and support and advice throughout your stay, as well as 24-7 emergency help.
